Selection of the Correct Schema

The choice of the correct CS schema is based on both histology and primary site. The first step is to evaluate the histology and click on the specific histology group or "All Other Histologies". The link goes directly to the CS schema for the following specific histologies: Kaposi sarcoma, lymphoma, and hematopoietic diseases. For these histologies the choice of CS schema is not dependent on site.

For the remaining histologies, clicking the appropriate histology brings up a sub-menu with all of the site groups. The second step is to determine the primary site and click on it. For melanoma, retinoblastoma and mycosis fungoides, certain sites have special schemas. The link takes you to the special CS schema for this histology/site combination and to the regular schema for the site if there isn't a special schema. For example, for melanoma of the conjunctiva, there is a special melanoma of the conjunctiva schema. But for melanoma of the breast, the link goes to the regular breast cancer schema.

Some histology codes lead directly to a schema. Most histology codes lead to selection of a schema from the general site code list. Some histology codes lead to special site code lists from which the schema is selected.

Please select a histologic type range:

8000 - 8713 Select schema by site from the general site code list.
8720 - 8790 Melanoma - Select schema by site from the Melanoma site code list.

All Other Histologies

Note: Histology is used for two different purposes in CS. This page uses histology and site to determine the correct CS schema for each case. After the CS fields are coded, the histology is used to further determine whether the TNM and AJCC stage should be calculated based on histology specifications in the AJCC 6th edition.
