Drs Bilimoria, Reines Appointed to AHRQ Quality Indicator Work Group

Karl Y. Bilimoria, MD, MS, assistant professor of surgery at Northwestern University, The Feinberg School of Medicine, Director of the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL, an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Faculty Scholar in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care and an AJCC Executive Member. Along with David H. Reines, MD, FACS, Vice-Chairman, Council on Graduate Medical Education, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Past-President and 2013–2014 Governor of the ACS Metropolitan Washington Chapter.

Both Bilimoria and Reines were appointed to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Quality Indicator Standing Work Group. This group, which held its first meeting on September 12, provides feedback to AHRQ regarding refinement of current patient safety and quality indicators, developing new measures, and identifying measures to retire.  The group will focus on the lifecycle of AHRQ quality indicators and address general issues related to the measurement cycle.
